Charismatic bishops endorse Tinubu For 2027 re-election

The Charismatic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) has expressed its full endorsement for President Bola Tinubu's re-election bid for the 2027 presidential election, according to a recent statement from the conference. Archbishop Leonard Bature Kawas, the President-General of CBCN, made the announcement during the organisation's 2026 synod, which was captured in a viral video.

In his address, Kawas stated that the endorsement was made based on their evaluation of Tinubu's administration. He highlighted that the President had not engaged in nepotism, despite his Muslim-Muslim ticket during the 2023 election, and that he had consistently shown support for Christian governors in Nigeria. Kawas emphasized that Tinubu had been steadfast in his commitment to Christianity and his wife, both of whom are prominent figures in the faith.

The bishop commended the All Progressives Congress (APC) for appointing a born-again Christian and preacher of the gospel as the national leader of the party, marking a first in the party's history. He continued by expressing the conference's unwavering support for Tinubu, vowing to continue backing him through prayers and advocacy efforts focused on developing the country.

Kawas also addressed the need for greater inclusion of religious leaders in political appointments, urging the federal government to consider Christians and Muslims equally in such selection processes. The CBCN's endorsement was backed by several dignitaries, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, and the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris.
