Charismatic Bishops Conference Endorses Tinubu for

The Charismatic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) has formally endorsed President Bola Tinubu's bid for the 2027 presidential election. Archbishop Prof. Leonard Bature Kawas, President General of CBCN, announced the support during the 12th Synod held at the National Ecumenical Centre in Abuja. Kawas cited the administration's policies and efforts to promote national unity as reasons for his endorsement.

He emphasized that the Church would continue to support Tinubu through prayers, advocacy, and public engagement, stating that this support would endure as long as Tinubu wishes to serve as president.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Dr. George Akume, who officially opened the 12th Synod on behalf of President Tinubu, urged religious leaders to maintain national unity ahead of the 2027 general election. Akume expressed appreciation for the Church's prayers, humanitarian interventions, and contributions to peace, national cohesion, and moral formation.

He assured Nigerians that the government was committed to reform and would not relent until household incomes were recovered, translating to affordable food, jobs, better infrastructure, healthcare services, and dignity for ordinary citizens.

Akume highlighted recent security gains, including the rescue of 308 abducted citizens from Kwara and Niger States, but stressed that the fight against terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, communal conflict, and criminal violence continued. He emphasized that national security is a collective responsibility, urging religious leaders to foster trust, social cohesion, early warning, and responsible speech.

Akume emphasized the critical role of religious leaders in peacebuilding and asked them to safeguard democracy, urging them not to determine the election outcome but to ensure Nigeria remains united.
