Cancer leaves tiger Nandu unable to eat, euthanised at Thrissur zoo

Nandu, a tiger rescued from the Wayanad forests and subsequently brought to the Thrissur Zoological Park at Puthur, succumbed to cancer on Thursday, according to zoo officials. The fight for the tiger's life ended after his mouth cancer caused him severe pain and rendered him unable to eat. Despite being under treatment by veterinary experts at the zoo, Nandu's condition continued to deteriorate, leaving little hope for recovery.

The severity of his illness and the assessment by veterinary experts that his condition was unlikely to improve led to the decision to euthanize him. The Chief Wildlife Warden authorized the euthanasia, taking into account Nandu's excruciating pain and the assessment that his health was unlikely to improve. Following his death, a post-mortem examination was conducted at the Mannuthy Veterinary University.

His body was later buried within the Thrissur Zoological Park premises, adhering to the prescribed procedures.
