Kuala Lumpur: The court has set a 15-day period beginning July 26, 2027, for the trial of former Malaysian Army officer PAT Mohd Nizam Jaffar, who faces four charges including using his position and misappropriating RM3 million in funds. Judge Rosli Ahmad scheduled the hearing for July 26-29, August 9-12, September 13-15, and September 27-30, 2027, after both the prosecution and defense agreed to the schedule.

Nidzuwan Abd Latip, the Deputy Public Prosecutor, informed the court that his team has submitted all relevant documents to the defense and was informed that Nizam has requested to send a representative. Abdul Aziz Hamzah, Nizam's lawyer, stated that his team would file a representation to the Attorney-General's Chambers within a week, but did not specify the purpose of the representation.

Hamzah also requested the court to set a date to hear the representation. Nizam, 59, is charged as the former Chief Staff Assistant (AKSPA) of the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), who misappropriated RM267,481.90 for himself by appointing Sinar Bakti Global for the cost of preparing traditional clothing for Eid celebrations in 2025, worth RM468,000.

He is also accused of appointing Sinar Raudhah Global for RM52,000 for preparing Batik clothing for Eid celebrations in 2025, QMZ Resources for RM600,000 for preparing bathtubs for Eid celebrations in 2025, and Helmee Resources for RM1,725,000 for preparing gift bags for Eid celebrations in 2025, all allegedly benefiting Tkat. These offenses were committed at the Ministry of Defence, Padang Tembak Street, Kementah on June 24, 2024, under Section 23(1) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Agency Act 2009 (ACA) which can result in a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a fine of at least five times the amount or value of the bribe or RM10,000, whichever is higher, if found guilty.

The third charge states that Nizam misappropriated RM3 million of Tkat's funds by misusing the money for additional investments in Precious Amber International Berhad without approval from the Tkat Investment Committee, also on October 4, 2024, under Section 409 of the Penal Code [Act 574], which carries a maximum sentence of two to 20 years in prison and a fine.

For the fourth charge, Nizam is accused of receiving RM200,000 without providing any consideration from a director of Aspen Red Sdn Bhd who may have a connection to the business he is conducting, at the Transit Building in Kuala Lumpur, Jalan Buku Lima, Kementah, in March 2025, under Section 165 of the Penal Code [Act 574], which can result in a maximum sentence of two years in prison or a fine or both.
