Bersatu woes continue as most Arau division leaders resign

Recent resignations have shaken the Perlis Bersatu party, following the departure of its menteri besar Abu Bakar Hamzah from the party's Supreme Council. Most of the Arau division's leaders have announced their exit from the party, joining a string of defections from other divisions as well. Arau's deputy chairman Azrul Azhar Abd Ghani, vice-chief C Sombun, and all members of the division's Wanita and Youth leaderships have resigned.

Their representative, Roshita Buyong, stated that they were protesting against Padang Besar Bersatu chief Izizam Ibrahim's appointment as head of the state chapter, claiming that the Perlis Bersatu leadership and grassroots were not consulted. In a similar move, multiple Kangar Bersatu leaders have announced their exit to join opposition leader Hamzah Zainudin's Wawasan party.

This comes after a prior exodus from Padang Besar Bersatu. In July, Perlis menteri besar Abu Bakar Hamzah also resigned from the Bersatu Supreme Council, reportedly aligning himself with Hamzah, the former deputy president who was sacked in February amidst a leadership struggle with party president Muhyiddin Yassin.
