Mior Haidir, the deputy president of Pejuang, has rejected the claim that the selected candidate does not mean protecting the guilty. In a statement, Mior clarified that defending Malaysian Malays does not imply safeguarding those who commit mistakes, while rejecting the candidacy of anyone does not mean halting the legal process or shielding any individual.

If guilt exists, investigate and charge; if innocent, provide space for self-defense. Legislation must proceed without favoring those in power or the victims, he emphasized. He warned that political cooperation between Malay parties cannot be used to protect individuals facing prosecution. If a unity only emerges when pressure intensifies, the public has the right to question whether it truly stems from a genuine desire to unite the nation or merely a division to find an escape from the current difficulties.

The statement came after several Umno leaders were recently accused of being under surveillance related to Tabung Haji and Felda. It was also made amid pleas from Umno and PAS to promote Malay unity, with both parties resuming relations after the BN and PN leadership reached consensus in the PRN Nine, where they obtained a two-thirds majority in the State Assembly.

Mior stressed that Malay unity should not become a shelter opened when it rains and folded when the weather clears. He also said any effort to unite Malays should be built on a broader agenda encompassing economics, education, asset acquisition, integrity, governance, and the future of the Malay community, rather than solely protecting the interests of a particular individual or group.

We need more mature politics; politics capable of defending the rights of Malays without compromising principles, upholding justice regardless of who is involved, and rejecting corruption regardless of its perpetrator, he concluded.
