Adityanath recalls GB Pant's role in Kakori case, land reforms on 139th birth anniversary

Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh - Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath honored Bharat Ratna Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant on his 139th birth anniversary on Thursday, paying tribute to his significant contributions to India's freedom struggle, governance, land reforms, and linguistic harmony after Independence. Adityanath and Finance Minister Suresh Khanna honored Pant, the first chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, at a program in Lucknow.

With floral tributes, Adityanath recounted Pant's role as a distinguished lawyer and freedom fighter, defending revolutionaries prosecuted by the British government after the 1925 Kakori train action. Pant, Adityanath explained, became the revolutionaries' lawyer, fighting their case fiercely. The CM also highlighted Pant's active involvement in India's freedom movement, relinquishing his position as premier of the United Provinces to join the struggle against British rule.

After Independence, Pant served as the first CM of Uttar Pradesh, striving to establish a model of good governance for the large state, which included present-day Uttarakhand. He initiated efforts to make the administration of such a vast region a model of efficient governance, catering to the economic advancement and interests of every section of society.

Among the reforms introduced by Pant during his tenure as CM, his land reform initiatives stood out, according to Adityanath. After serving as Union Home Minister, Pant helped resolve linguistic tensions and other challenges facing the newly independent nation.
