5 Myanmar nationals remanded over man found dead in septic tank

Five Myanmar nationals have been detained for seven days to aid in the investigation of a man's death discovered in a septic tank in Nibong Tebal, Penang. The suspects, all in their thirties, were arrested in Lenggeng, Negeri Sembilan and appeared in Bukit Mertajam magistrates' court. Magistrate J Savinder Singh granted the remand under Section 365 of the Penal Code, which pertains to kidnapping.

Penang police chief Dennis Lim confirmed that the deceased, a man in his fifties, was found with his limbs bound. His body had been in the tank for at least two days, and a missing person's report had been filed. Additionally, a nephew reported several suspicious transactions from the victim's bank account, including a transfer of approximately RM30,000 to a grocery store in Sungai Bakap.

Police discovered that the store owner had been instructed to transfer the funds to a bank in Myanmar. Seberang Perai Selatan police chief Norazmi Abd Ghapar stated that the case is also being investigated as a murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
