5 Myanmar nationals remanded over man found dead in septic tank

Five Myanmar nationals have been held for seven days, pending investigations into the death of a man discovered in a septic tank in Nibong Tebal, Penang. The suspects, aged in their 30s, were apprehended in Lenggeng, Negeri Sembilan, and appeared at Bukit Mertajam magistrates’ court. The death of the 50-year-old man, whose body had been in the tank for at least two days, is being probed under Section 365 of the Penal Code for kidnapping and potentially under Section 302 for murder.

The police discovered that the victim’s nephew had lodged a missing person’s report and that suspicious bank transactions totaling around RM30,000 had been made to a grocery store in Sungai Bakap. It emerged that the store owner had been directed to transfer the funds to a bank account in Myanmar.
