Zahid denies receiving Negeri Sembilan MB’s resignation letter

Seremban, September 9 — Negeri Sembilan's Chief Minister Datuk Ismail Lasim disclosed that he signed a proclamation regarding Tuanku Muhriz ibni Almarhum Tuanku Munawir's position as the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, but claimed he did so unwillingly under duress. He filed a police report around 6pm the previous day to facilitate an investigation.

According to Ismail, the proclamation did not adhere to the processes and procedures outlined in Article 10 of the Laws of the Constitution of Negeri Sembilan 1959, rendering it invalid, unconstitutional, and unenforceable. The State Executive Council deliberated on forming a reconciliation committee during their meeting the same day, which would provide a platform to resolve the customary dispute amicably and responsibly, in line with consensus.

Ismail also referred to Article 71 of the Federal Constitution, emphasizing the Federation's responsibility to protect the constitutional rights and position of a state ruler. He reaffirmed his unwavering support and loyalty to Tuanku Muhriz as the sole legitimate and sovereign Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan. This came in response to claims made by four individuals, who identified themselves as the Undang Yang Empat, the Tunku Besar of Tampin, and the Dato' Shahbandar of Sungei Ujong, asserting that Ismail signed the proclamation at Istana Laguna Biru in Port Dickson on August 3.

They argued that the proclamation was meant to implement a prior declaration concerning Tuanku Muhriz's position, allegedly signed and sealed by the four Undangs on April 19. The state government did not acknowledge the April 19 declaration, as its validity remains contentious.
