You Can Now Destroy Flock Cameras for Cash in GTA V

A new mod for Grand Theft Auto V allows players to destroy 235 surveillance cameras scattered throughout the fictional city of Los Santos. These cameras, which log player interactions, can be smashed or shot for $600 each. The mod, called GTPLR, aims to provide a cathartic release for players against these surveillance devices, which have been vandalized in real life across 36 US states.

While the mod acknowledges the potential dangers of police surveillance, it also acknowledges the mod's own potential for violent outcomes. Despite this, the creator hopes players will feel the "insidiousness and inescapability" of surveillance through the game. Real-life LA has suspended its use of Flock cameras, and other states are taking steps to limit their use, leading to 131 contract terminations in August alone.
