When is Ramadan 2027 and Eid Al Fitr holiday? Potential dates announced for the UAE

The Astronomy Centre of the United Arab Emirates has released estimates for the Islamic events in 2027, providing Muslims with a head start for planning around Ramadan and the subsequent holidays. Ramadan, the holy month of fasting and spirituality, is expected to commence around early February but the exact date will only be confirmed after the sighting of the crescent moon. The Islamic calendar, which is based on lunar cycles, causes the dates to shift by approximately 10 to 12 days each Gregorian year.

Muslims around the world eagerly await the announcement of Ramadan's start as it involves fasting, prayer, community service and family time. According to the calculations, Ramadan 2027 is predicted to begin on February 8 and could last either for 29 or 30 days, depending on the lunar cycle. The end of the month, Eid Al Fitr, follows the end of Ramadan, and is one of the most anticipated holidays on the UAE calendar.

The predicted dates for Eid Al Fitr 2027 are from March 9 to March 11 if Ramadan lasts 29 days or March 10 to March 11 if it lasts 30 days. However, if the crescent moon marking the start of the Shawwal month is not sighted on the 29th of Ramadan, the fasting month will extend to 30 days, resulting in an additional public holiday.

UAE employees typically get three paid days off for the first three days of Shawwal, but if the Shawwal crescent is sighted on the evening of Ramadan 29, then Ramadan 30 will also be a public holiday, extending the holiday break to six days. The dates provided by the Astronomy Centre should be considered as general guides until the official confirmation is received closer to the moon sighting.
