Umno will ensure Malaysia is for all, not just Malays, says Tok Mat

Deputy President Mohamad Hasan of the United Malays National Organisation (Umno) affirmed that the party remains a centrist force for the entire Malaysian population, not just Malays. Addressing the general assemblies of Umno Youth, Wanita Umno, and Puteri Umno wings in Kuala Lumpur, Hasan emphasized the party's commitment to a prosperous and well-managed nation in accordance with the Federal Constitution.

He stressed that Umno must never assume its constituents are only Malays, and must remain sensitive to the concerns of non-Malays, as well as its allies in Sabah and Sarawak. "They have now become the deciding forces. The time when we regarded them as fixed deposits is a thing of the past," Hasan noted, recognizing their growing influence in Malaysian politics.

Addressing the worries of non-Malays regarding the country's direction due to the dominance of Malay-Muslim politics, Hasan reaffirmed that Umno has always been a centrist party. "Our ideology is centrism. I repeat: Umno will always take the middle path. We will not lean to the left or right. Our commitment is to balance ideas from both the left and right as a moderate national party," he declared.

Furthermore, Hasan cautioned potential partners of Umno against introducing "conservative" or "radical" ideologies into the party. "For decades, we have governed the country with moderate attitudes, policies, positions and priorities. Therefore, anyone who wishes to cooperate with Umno must accept Umno’s moderate, middle-ground approach," he cautioned.
