Umno president urges party to strengthen solidarity, machinery

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 9 — Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi urged the party to enhance solidarity, streamline its machinery, and maintain a close connection with the people as it prepares for the forthcoming election. Vice-president Mohamed Khaled Nordin reminded party members not to become complacent following their victories in the recent Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections.

He stressed the necessity of maintaining the party's momentum and preserving its relationship with the electorate. Defence Minister Ahmad Zahid also advised against arrogance, emphasizing that BN's success in the elections does not ensure future triumphs; instead, the party must persist in striving to win the people's confidence and rectify its weaknesses.

Supreme Council member Shamsul Anuar Nasarah highlighted the focus on strengthening solidarity among party leaders amid a rapidly evolving political environment. The briefing, a regular pre-General Assembly event, provided the president an opportunity to communicate his vision and directives to the party leadership. There was no talk of external political alliances or specific strategies during the closed-door meeting; instead, the emphasis was on internal unity and the readiness of the party's machinery for the upcoming elections.
