Tswelopele Local municipality works on solutions to prevent flooding

The Tswelopele Local Municipality in the Free State is actively seeking permanent solutions to prevent flooding. Heavy rains over the weekend left many residents of Hoopstad stranded, with homes, yards, and streets inundated with water. Children faced difficulties reaching school, while employees had to navigate flooded streets to reach their workplaces.

Visuals from the area show the extent of the damage caused by the heavy rainfall. Lebohang Malokase, the Technical Director for Infrastructure Services at the municipality, revealed that they have identified a culvert on the R34 route between Wesselsbron and Hoopstad as the main cause of the flooding. They have contacted the public works department to obtain the contact details of the route manager from Sanral, who has agreed to meet with them this week to develop a lasting solution to the recurring flood issue.
