Trump says Iran war will end right after US midterm elections

During an interview with reporters before heading to the Republican National Convention in Dallas, Trump stated that the war had been ongoing for seven months without any foreseeable resolution. Iran recently claimed responsibility for attacking ten ships near the Strait of Hormuz in retaliation for the US sinking five Iranian oil tankers. The resumption of hostilities caused oil prices to skyrocket, with the benchmark Brent crude futures reaching above $100 a barrel for the first time since July.

Trump's approval ratings have plummeted to a record low due to voter dissatisfaction with the Iran war and the escalating cost-of-living crisis. Midterm elections, scheduled for November 3, are typically seen as a barometer for the incumbent president's performance. Trump indicated that oil prices would decrease post-election once the conflict ends, but ruled out diplomatic negotiations, stating that they are not currently under consideration.
