Triple Murder: Lindsay Clancy’s lawyer calls on Trump to grant her a pardon

Attorney Kevin Reddington for Lindsay Clancy, the mother accused of murdering her three children in Massachusetts in January 2023, has urged President Donald Trump to grant her a pardon. Despite the case being prosecuted under state law, Reddington expressed hope that the president would consider Clancy's situation and the circumstances she has endured.

Clancy's lawyer mentioned in an interview on ABC's "Good Morning America" that he believes the president should take into account the young woman's character and the challenges she has faced. Although a president's pardon power is only applicable to federal crimes, Trump has demonstrated a broader interpretation of his clemency powers, having applied it in some cases tried in state courts as well.

The White House responded to the Clancy pardon request by reaffirming their view of Clancy's actions as "horrible" and hinted at potential consequences such as a mental institution or jail time. At trial, Clancy's defense team argued that she was not guilty by reason of insanity, claiming that she was experiencing a psychotic episode due to postpartum psychosis.

Prosecutors, however, contended that the killings were premeditated. Following the mistrial, the state could now seek a retrial. In December, Trump pardoned Tina Peters, a Colorado county clerk convicted of state charges related to voting machine tampering, viewing the pardon as largely symbolic. The move aimed to send a message and potentially exert political pressure on Colorado Governor Jared Polis, a Democrat, given his stance on Peters' nine-year prison sentence.

Polis eventually granted Peters clemency in May, and she subsequently appeared with Trump in the Oval Office.
