Those convicted of corruption should serve full court sentences, Pakatan says ahead of Najib pardon bid

Pakatan Harapan (PH) has argued that those convicted of corruption or abuse of power, especially in prominent cases, should receive the complete sentences handed down by the courts, according to the coalition's statement on Facebook. The PH emphasized that the rule of law necessitates that judicial proceedings in high-profile cases should proceed independently and systematically.

It stated that any decisions pertaining to such cases must consider public trust in Malaysia's dedication to its agenda. PH acknowledged that previous major corruption cases had harmed Malaysia's international standing, while recent initiatives had aided in restoring confidence in the nation's institutions and governance. The coalition also voiced support for the government's endeavors to fight against corruption, fiscal leakages, and misuse of power, while reiterating its dedication to institutional reform.

This stance emerged just before a purported Federal Territories Pardons Board meeting planned for Friday. According to Sin Chew Daily, a new pardon request from former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak was anticipated to be among the items under discussion at the meeting. PH refrained from discussing Najib, the application, or the Pardons Board meeting in its statement.
