‘The first game was weird’ – Sampson reflects on Black Princesses’ Ecuador defeat

Black Princesses head coach Charles Sampson has described his team's 3-0 loss to Ecuador in the U-20 Women's World Cup as a "weird" game, but remains confident in his players' ability to recover. Ghana's disappointing campaign began with a three-goal defeat in their opening Group stage match. Sampson attributes the result to a combination of factors that prevented their usual tactics from working effectively.

"I will say the first game actually was a weird game, weird in many senses that what we normally do at ease did not work and it can also be so many factors, difficult to pinpoint," Sampson said. Despite the outcome, the coach believes the squad has shown resilience and is now ready to face their next challenge. "I can say confidently that the girls have overcome the last game shock and the emotions in it, so now it looks like we are ready to go," he added.

The loss took a toll on the players, but Sampson insists they have regained their focus. "The girls were all down, just like myself, in the first game. We have shaken it up now, we are ready to go and redeem ourselves." Ghana will now face South Korea in their next Group stage match, with the Black Princesses seeking a positive result to improve their chances of advancing in the tournament.
