Sanwo-Olu appoints new LASU Vice-Chancellor

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has officially appointed Professor Ayodeji Olawunmi Badejo as the new Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU). The announcement was made in a statement released by the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, on Wednesday. Badejo, a professor of Guidance and Counselling, will succeed Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, whose five-year term has ended.

The statement confirmed that Badejo, born on August 4, 1962, holds a PhD in Guidance and Counselling and an M. Ed degree in Guidance and Counselling from the University of Lagos. She will assume her new role following Olatunji-Bello's tenure, which concluded in September 2021. During her time as Vice-Chancellor, Olatunji-Bello achieved a 96% success rate in the university's first-year accreditation exercise, with 31 out of 37 programs receiving full accreditation.

She also reported a significant increase in the university's internally generated revenue from N3bn to N13bn. Olatunji-Bello described her administration as one that transformed LASU into "the most subscribed university in Nigeria and the most digitally advanced among our peers."
