Sanwo-Olu appoints new LASU Vice-Chancellor

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has officially appointed Professor Ayodeji Olawunmi Badejo as the new Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU). The announcement was made by the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, in a statement on Wednesday. Professor Badejo, a professor of Guidance and Counselling, will succeed Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, whose five-year tenure has come to an end.

Badejo, who was born on August 4, 1962, holds a PhD in Guidance and Counselling and a Master of Education in Guidance and Counselling from the University of Lagos (UNILAG). She will assume the position from Olatunji-Bello, who took office as Vice-Chancellor in September 2021. During her tenure, LASU recorded a 96 percent success rate in its first-year accreditation exercise, with 31 out of 37 programs securing full accreditation.

Additionally, the university's internally generated revenue grew from N3bn to N13bn under her leadership. Olatunji-Bello described her administration as one that transformed LASU into "the most subscribed university in Nigeria and the most digitally advanced among our peers." She expressed satisfaction that she was leaving behind a university of proven excellence.
