S. Korea to send 2nd contingent of disaster relief team to Nepal

Korea plans to dispatch a second team of disaster relief experts to Nepal, a foreign ministry spokesperson confirmed on Wednesday. The initial team, which arrived in Nepal on September 2, is set to depart for home on September 11 on a KC-330 aircraft. The first group was only allocated a 10-day mission, as determined by a joint government-private council.

The second contingent, comprising 44 individuals from the foreign ministry, fire authorities, and other agencies, will also focus on search-and-rescue efforts in Nepal. They have already established a base camp in Batar, located in the Nuwakot district, which is a crucial stop along the route to the flood-stricken Rasuwa district.

Tragically, nine South Koreans have gone missing while participating in relief efforts at the Upper Trishuli-1 hydropower plant construction site in Rasuwa, a region severely impacted by massive floods and landslides. The second team will continue the ongoing search-and-rescue operations in the affected areas.
