X-ray of microenterprises in Spain: why they are 40% less productive than in Germany

Bureaucracy and administrative burdens are the main obstacles to business growth and development in Spain, followed by a lack of qualified labor. According to a study by Pimec, the productivity of Spanish companies, measured by added value per employee, is 52,908 euros, which is below the European Union average and that of its main EU partners.

The study found that microenterprises with 0-9 employees generate an added value of 34,781 euros per employee, 17.4% below the EU average, and significantly lower than France and Germany. Pimec proposes measures to address these issues, including administrative simplification, digitalization of procedures, and tax reform with incentives for reinvestment in innovation, digitalization, and training.
