Pune: 28-Year-Old MPSC Aspirant Dies By Suicide, Leaves Note Detailing Debts

Pune, September 9 - A 28-year-old man who was preparing for the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) examinations allegedly took his own life due to financial troubles, with a debt of approximately Rs 2.5 lakh possibly being the cause, an official announced on Wednesday. Prathamesh Deshmukh, the deceased, hailed from Paranda and resided in a rented apartment in Navi Peth while studying for the MPSC exams.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Krushikesh Rawale, informed PTI about the incident, which was reported by some local residents. The incident is deeply distressing, as the young man left behind a two-page note outlining the names of 18-19 individuals he had borrowed money from and the amounts he had repaid. The DCP mentioned that Delhi Police Rescue 2 was involved in locating and questioning his family members to determine the reasons behind his borrowing and to investigate the matter further.

The time of the suicide will be determined after the post-mortem report is received. The Mumbai Crime Branch is probing a question paper leak in the MPSC Drug Inspector (Group-B) screening examination that took place in March, and MPSC aspirants have recently protested across the state, demanding transparency in recruitment procedures and actions against alleged leaks and irregularities in various examinations.

The state government has established a high-level committee to propose recommendations for improving the overall examination process.
