Political groups vow to uphold Tung's vision

Political parties and institutions have vowed on Wednesday to continue Tung Chee-hwa's legacy, honoring his dedication to Hong Kong and the nation. Tung passed away on Tuesday at the age of 89. The Democratic Alliance for the Betterment of Hong Kong (DAB) acknowledged Tung as a lifelong patriot who cherished Hong Kong, promising to uphold his spirit and continue striving for the welfare of both the nation and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR).

They emphasized that Hong Kong could actively participate in the nation's reforms and that the country's growth would present new opportunities for Hong Kong to flourish further.

The Liberal Party echoed similar sentiments, highlighting Tung's profound love for his country and the inspiration his spirit provided. They vowed to emulate Tung's patriotism and commitment, steadfastly safeguarding the "One Country, Two Systems" principle while fully contributing to the nation's and Hong Kong's prosperity.

Nancy Ip, President of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, shared Tung's emphasis on higher education. She noted that he ardently promoted strengthening Hong Kong through education, technology, and talent development, leaving an indelible mark on Hong Kong's education and innovation sectors. Lawmaker Simon Lee, who collaborated with Tung at Our Hong Kong Foundation, stressed that Tung's contributions extended beyond Hong Kong, touching the nation and the intricate China-US relationship.

He urged the public to honor Tung by remaining committed to public service, contributing more to the nation and Hong Kong, and advancing Tung's vision and dedication.
