Police record seven major breakthroughs in crime fight

The Ghana Police Service achieved seven significant breakthroughs in combating violent crime through weeks of coordinated intelligence-led operations across the nation. Inspector General Christian Tetteh Yohuno briefed the media, stating that special intelligence teams collaborated with regional police commanders to target suspected robbery gangs and individuals linked to various violent offenses.

These operations led to the arrest of suspects and the recovery of firearms, ammunition, and other critical evidence. One operation resulted in the arrest of a suspect connected to the murder of Dr Jesse Amuah and Mrs Elizabeth Amuah Esi. Another operation targeted robbery attacks on banks and bank customers in major cities such as Accra, Kumasi, and Takoradi, resulting in the arrest of multiple suspects and the recovery of weapons.

A significant operation dismantled a robbery gang operating in several regions, leading to the arrest of five suspects and the seizure of three AK-47 rifles and 357 rounds of ammunition. Other notable arrests included three suspects in Buipe, Tamale, and Mion, as well as the mastermind behind a notorious robbery at the Buipe Cattle Market.

A gang leader and suspects involved in a robbery on the Enyiresi-Sekyere road were also apprehended, with one suspect recovering a pump-action gun. Additionally, five suspects were arrested for illegal weapons trading, recovering eight AK-47 assault rifles. The IGP commended the dedicated efforts of the officers involved and assured the public that the police administration would continue to recognize and reward their hard work.

He also expressed gratitude to President John Mahama and the government for logistical support, including armored vehicles and pickup trucks. The IGP urged the public to provide credible and timely intelligence, encouraging them to report suspects to the nearest police station or call the emergency line. He emphasized that the police would continue to pursue criminals relentlessly, assuring the public of their commitment to public safety and accountability.
