Police bust JAMB fraud syndicate, arrest suspect

The Nigeria Police Force, in collaboration with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) National Headquarters, has dismantled a syndicate involved in fraudulent activities targeting the board. During the operation, police apprehended one suspect, Nwogba Arinze, who was allegedly posing as the Registrar's personal assistant.

Arinze allegedly used the bank account of his deceased nephew to conceal his identity and evade detection. The operation, which was initiated following a petition submitted by JAMB's Registrar, Prof. Segun Aina, on August 10, 2026, also led investigators to Anambra State, where further arrests were made. The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, stated that the syndicate created fake social media accounts using the Registrar's identity to defraud unsuspecting individuals.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, emphasized the commitment to combating crime and maintaining public integrity. Members of the public are advised to report suspicious online activities to the National Cybercrime Centre.
