OroraTech partners with Eutelsat for infrared satellite monitoring from space

German space technology firm OroraTech has recently entered into a partnership with French satellite operator Eutelsat, according to a report on September 9. This agreement involves the deployment of up to 96 infrared sensors on Eutelsat's upcoming low-Earth orbit satellites. This move is expected to significantly augment OroraTech's capacity to monitor various phenomena from space, including wildfires, critical infrastructure, and maritime activity.

The partnership announcement was made at the International Space Summit in Paris. Under the deal, OroraTech has secured capacity for 48 hosted payloads, with an option to acquire an additional 48. This arrangement is anticipated to boost OroraTech's observation capabilities by close to 500%. It also expands OroraTech's global commercial thermal imaging satellite network, which is currently the largest in the world.

The infrared sensors will be integrated onto Eutelsat's spacecraft instead of being launched on separate satellites. This approach allows OroraTech to swiftly scale up its coverage and do so at a reduced cost.
