One dies in wildfire as Turkey continues containment effort

A resident of Turkey's southern Antalya province passed away on Wednesday from a heart attack caused by smoke inhalation during a wildfire, according to local authorities. The incident occurred as several fires broke out in the region this week. Aksu district mayor Isa Yildirim shared the news on X, stating that the fire had affected the individual's health.

Turkey's forest authority reported that the wildfires in Kumluca district and Bozyazi district of Antalya, as well as those in Aksu district and Kozan district of Adana, have been largely contained. However, efforts to fully extinguish the blazes are ongoing. Firefighters are actively battling the fires, utilizing water from both the air and the ground to control the spread of the flames. Thick smoke rose into the sky, as captured in video footage showing flames consuming forested areas.

Helicopters, aircraft, and fire trucks collaborated to contain the blazes, while residents also joined the firefighting efforts. Farmers, for instance, used tractors and water tankers to aid in transporting water to the affected areas, as reported by broadcaster NTV.
