Official: Lazio Sign Diogo Leite on a Free Transfer

S.S. Lazio have officially confirmed the signing of 27-year-old Portuguese central defender Diogo Leite on a free transfer. The move further strengthens Gennaro Gattuso’s squad ahead of the new season. Following the departure of former Union Berlin teammate Danilho Doekhi earlier this summer, Lazio had been actively seeking to bolster their defense.

Leite's arrival comes after his contract with Union Berlin expired at the end of June 2026, and negotiations for a move to Rome were finalized in early July. The Biancocelesti announced the signing via a statement on their official website, highlighting that Leite will be under a two-year contract, with an option to extend for a further two seasons.

Speaking to Lazio Style Channel, Leite expressed his excitement about joining the club, noting that he had been eager to move to Lazio since March and had rejected other offers to follow his preferred destination. The defender also mentioned his positive experience working with Doekhi and expressed his enthusiasm about reuniting with his former teammate, emphasizing that playing alongside each other again is an honor.
