Nigeria set for Russia rematch in October

Nigeria is set to clash with Russia in an international friendly on October 6 at the 44,000-capacity Nizhny Novgorod Stadium, according to PUNCH Sports Extra. This rematch occurs 16 months after the two teams played to a 1-1 draw in Moscow in June 2025. In that match, Russia scored first through an own goal by Nigerian Semi Ajayi, but the Super Eagles equalized via Tolu Arokodare in the second half.

The upcoming fixture is the second meeting between the countries in the past 16 months, scheduled exactly one week after Nigeria's second 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying game against Guinea-Bissau on September 29. Nigeria's head coach Eric Chelle will use this friendly to assess his squad ahead of their subsequent international commitments. The Super Eagles are currently ranked 26th in the world, while Russia hold the 35th position.

The match will take place at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium, which previously hosted games during the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
