New secretariat at Pattinapakkam will result in severe traffic congestion: Anbumani

PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss criticized the state government's plan to build a new Assembly Secretariat in Pattinapakkam, stating it lacked foresight. The area is already facing severe traffic congestion on Santhome Road and Pasumpon Muthuramalingam Salai, which led to the construction of a loop road. The proposed site houses important buildings like Santhome Church, schools, and the Inspector General of Registration office.

Anbumani argued that the identified land was insufficient for a functioning Secretariat complex, as it would require additional facilities such as a fire station, emergency medical services, restaurants, parking, and public transport. He warned that introducing these amenities within the restricted area would exacerbate space constraints, potentially leading to similar issues as the existing complex.

AMMK general secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran urged Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay to reconsider the site selection, highlighting the negative impact on local fishermen and calling for a public hearing before finalizing the location.
