Negri Sembilan Umno urges swift resolution to issue surrounding ruler's position

Negri Sembilan's Umno faction has urged a prompt resolution to the controversy surrounding the position of Yang di-Pertuan Besar, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir. Liaison committee chairman Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias disclosed he was unaware of rumors suggesting Menteri Besar, Datuk Ismail Lasim, might resign due to the issue. As the state Umno chief, Jalaluddin expressed hope for a rapid resolution, stating he was no longer affiliated with the state administration and had no insight into the resignation rumors.

He learned of the situation from media reports following his attendance at the 2026 Umno General Assembly at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur. When asked about Ismail's signature on the Instrument of Proclamation purportedly removing Tuanku Muhriz, Jalaluddin declined to comment further, affirming he had no comment on the Menteri Besar's statement.

Earlier, Ismail alleged he was compelled to sign the document and lodged a police report at 6pm the previous day to enable authorities to investigate. He asserted the state government deemed the document invalid, unconstitutional, and unenforceable, as it failed to adhere to the procedures outlined in Article 10 of the Negri Sembilan Constitution of 1959.
