Mukhisa Kituyi joins Sifuna as opposition realignment gathers pace

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has welcomed former Trade Minister and UNCTAD Secretary-General Mukhisa Kituyi into his Linda Mwananchi political outfit, as opposition forces consolidate ahead of the 2027 General Election. Sifuna announced Kituyi's addition at his office alongside fellow senators Boni Khalwale and Godfrey Osotsi, describing the move as a "great addition" to the team.

Kituyi, a senior political figure with extensive experience in national and international affairs, was appointed spokesperson for the United Opposition in August, urging opposition leaders to present a unified front and focus on offering an alternative to the Kenya Kwanza administration. His association with Linda Mwananchi is especially significant, as he previously acknowledged the movement's growing influence and cautioned against political competition degenerating into ethnic mobilization.

Kituyi's arrival enhances Linda Mwananchi's prospects of becoming a nationwide political force, as the movement intensifies grassroots mobilization ahead of the 2027 elections. However, the legal status of Linda Mwananchi remains uncertain, as a recent decision by the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal prevented the Registrar of Political Parties from registering the name or a similar one pending an appeal.
