Mom charged with murdering 2-year-old child ordered held in custody

Corie Walsh, a 40-year-old mother of four from Illinois, appeared in court on Tuesday, shackled and handcuffed, charged with the first-degree murder of her 2-year-old son, Barrett. Judge Amy Bertani denied Walsh's request for release, citing clear and convincing evidence that she is a threat to her family and others. Walsh allegedly confessed to killing her son because he was the "devil" and the "Antichrist."

The toddler's neighbor reported finding the child unresponsive in the basement, while Walsh was found upstairs with a knife, claiming she had attempted suicide. Prosecutors also mentioned that an 8-month-old infant was found unsupervised in the home but was unharmed. Walsh's defense team, Robert Kerr and Andrea Lyon, who previously represented Casey Anthony, stated that Walsh was suffering from a psychotic episode at the time of the alleged murder.

The defense hopes that the facts will reveal the true tragedy. Neither Walsh's husband nor her three other children were present in court due to attending Barrett's funeral. Walsh's husband and mother were not in court as they were attending the funeral. Walsh is scheduled to return to court on September 24.
