Mbappe puts Real Madrid Champions League glory above Ballon d’Or

Kylian Mbappe, the star player for Real Madrid, has stated that winning the UEFA Champions League is more important to him than winning the Ballon d’Or. Real Madrid kicked off their 2026-27 Champions League campaign with a 2-1 win over Inter Milan at the Bernabeu, with Mbappe scoring the opening goal. This victory was crucial for the team's pursuit of their sixth European title.

Despite never having won a major trophy during his time at Real Madrid, Mbappe expressed his desire to finally secure a Champions League title. He said, "It is very important for me to win the UEFA Champions League with Real Madrid. I want it more than anything, we want to achieve extraordinary things. We want to be a group and a team capable of competing with the best teams in the world."

While Mbappe believes he is in a strong position to win the 2026 Ballon d’Or, he prioritizes the Champions League victory. He told CBS Sports Golazo, "This is the goal. I said it yesterday about the Ballon d’Or, but the UEFA Champions League is more important to me because I play for my dream club. It is very important for me to win the UEFA Champions League here in Madrid, I want it more than anything, but of course the Ballon d’Or this year I think is a big opportunity for me, it has been a good year for me, but we will see what happens."

Regarding his experience under new coach Jose Mourinho, Mbappe described it as both challenging and rewarding. He explained that Mourinho energizes him and makes him feel like a special person, but also applies significant pressure. Mbappe acknowledged that the coach's intensity in training and leadership create a sense of responsibility, prompting him to give his best effort.
