Manaea perfect for 5 innings, Lindor and Soto homer as the Mets beat the Marlins 7-5

Sean Manaea retired his first 15 batters as the New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins 7-5 on Tuesday night. The Mets have won three consecutive games and five out of six as they try to climb out of last place in the NL East. Francisco Lindor and Juan Soto each homered early, helping New York build a 7-0 lead through five innings.

Brett Baty added a third-inning home run for the Mets. Though Manaea came close to achieving his second career no-hitter and the 25th perfect game in MLB history, Jakob Marsee ended the bid with a bloop single in the sixth inning. Manaea allowed five consecutive hits to start the inning and never got another out. He gave up five hits in a row, struck out four, and walked none.

The Marlins outhit New York 10-8 in the game. Lindor connected on Sandy Alcantara's first pitch, driving it 405 feet to right-center for a 1-0 lead. Soto added a 417-foot drive in the second inning, his 24th homer of the season, making it 5-0. Alcantara allowed seven runs on seven hits and four walks in 4 1/3 innings.
