Maharashtra To Boost Engineering, Polytechnic Students' Employability With AI Skilling, Centralised Placements

Mumbai, September 9, 2026: Maharashtra aims to enhance the employability and industry readiness of engineering and polytechnic students through targeted skill development programs, a centralised placement service, and AI-based training initiatives, according to Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil. During a review meeting, Patil emphasized the importance of equipping students with practical skills relevant to industry demands rather than merely awarding degrees or diplomas.

He highlighted the need for better collaboration between educational institutions, industry, and technology sectors.

The meeting touched upon several initiatives, including the Indian Society for Technical Education's (ISTE) Centralised Placement Platform, Centre for Future Skills, and ISTE-SmartBridge AI Skilling Initiative. The centralised placement platform will offer students employment, internship, and apprenticeship opportunities. Meanwhile, the Centre for Future Skills will provide training in emerging technologies, while the AI Skilling Initiative will offer courses ranging from introductory to advanced levels.
