Lagos seeks residents’ input for 2027 budget

The Lagos State Government has initiated consultations with residents from the state's five divisions in preparation for the 2027 budget. The series of engagements commenced with a forum held in the Ikeja Division, at Radio Lagos' Multipurpose Hall, Agidingbi, where community leaders and residents outlined their priorities and reviewed the progress of requests from earlier consultations.

At the forum, the Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Mr. Ope George, announced that these annual consultations are designed to enable residents to have a say in the government's priorities and to communicate their specific needs directly to the administration. Mr. George emphasized that every year, the Lagos government embarks on a state-wide tour to listen to citizens and understand what they desire to see in the upcoming budget.

The Commissioner further explained that this year's consultation serves a dual purpose. Firstly, it provides an opportunity for the government to report back to residents on the implementation of the requests made during the previous year's consultations. Secondly, it allows residents to share their updated needs for the 2027 budget.

George highlighted that the government has already presented an account of last year's requests and the measures taken to address them, and is now seeking the residents' input for future planning.
