Kody Clemens homers as Twins beat slumping Tigers, 3-2

DETROIT (AP) — Kody Clemens' two-run home run in the sixth inning propelled the Minnesota Twins to a 3-2 victory over their former team, the Detroit Tigers. The Twins, who had lost four of their past five games, bounced back with a win as the Tigers struggled, going 6-18 since August 14. Dean Kremer, the Twins' pitcher, secured the win with a five-inning shutout, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk.

Yoendrys Gómez came in to pitch the ninth inning and secured his 22nd save in 22 chances. Detroit's Drew Anderson went down in defeat, his second straight loss against the Twins, allowing three runs on four hits and three walks over 5 1/3 innings. The Twins took an early lead when Brooks Lee doubled, took third on walks, and scored on Josh Bell's sacrifice fly.

Detroit didn't score until the fifth inning, when Zach McKinstry singled and later scored on Kevin McGonigle's home run, giving the Tigers a 2-1 lead. McGonigle's home run brings him closer to becoming the fourth rookie to hit 15 homers, 25 doubles, 85 walks, and 90 runs, joining notable baseball history-makers. With the series continuing on Wednesday, Detroit will need a win to avoid their eighth consecutive losing series.
