Kano Gov Yusuf warns against hate speech, violence ahead of 2027

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has cautioned political parties and their members against engaging in hate speech, provocation, intimidation and violence as the 2027 governorship campaign officially commenced. The warning was delivered via a press conference by his Media and Publicity Director, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

Yusuf urged political entities and candidates to concentrate on their ideas, policies, past records and proposed programmes rather than resorting to insults and attacks on their opponents. He emphasized, “Let us compete on the basis of ideas, policies, records and programmes instead of insults, intimidation or violence.”

The governor also cautioned against destruction of property and any actions that could potentially jeopardize the peaceful atmosphere currently prevailing in the state. Yusuf requested his supporters to maintain discipline, respect differing opinions, and refrain from being provoked into actions that may disrupt public order.

Furthermore, Yusuf appealed to bloggers, media influencers, journalists and social media users to verify information before disseminating it. He cautioned them against spreading false news, rumors, inflammatory content and misinformation. The governor called upon security agencies to remain professional, impartial and vigilant throughout the campaign. He also encouraged political parties and campaign groups to collaborate with security agencies and abide by the law.

Yusuf expressed confidence that his administration would persist in providing public services and pursuing development projects despite the political activities. He affirmed that Kano was greater than any political party or individual, stating that politicians would continue to be citizens of the state post-election. Yusuf concluded by urging everyone to campaign with respect, compete with ideas, disagree without violence, and prioritize the welfare of Kano above political differences.
