Kane, Bayern Munich set sights on Champions League glory

MUNICH, September 9 — Bayern Munich have set their sights on Champions League glory this season, following recent near-misses in their attempts to secure the title. Harry Kane, the club's England captain, declared, "It has to be our year." Last season, Bayern narrowly lost to eventual champions Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in a dramatic semi-final.

PSG triumphed 5-4 on aggregate after a 5-4 first-leg victory and a 1-1 draw in Munich. Kane, reflecting on their narrow defeat, said, "We’re really close. I think last year was the finest of margins — to go out to a team who has won the Champions League back-to-back." Kane, who has been part of several near-misses in his career, believes that winning the Champions League requires "a bit of luck at the right moment."

The club has made significant additions this summer, bolstering depth and versatility. Ismael Saibari, a forward able to play anywhere across the forward line, and Nathaniel Brown, who has been deployed in various positions, joined Bayern. However, concerns remain about potential squad depth, particularly with Jamal Musiala's neurological disorder.

Bayern's coach, Vincent Kompany, has made the Champions League a primary goal alongside domestic dominance. "The goals with Bayern are always the highest: winning the Bundesliga, winning the Pokal (German Cup), winning the Champions League — and maybe even winning every game," Kompany stated in August. Despite near-misses in recent years, Kane is confident that this season could be different. "Luck at the right moment" could very well determine Bayern's success.
