Stillwater — Oklahoma State football coach Mike Morris admitted that not every player responded appropriately to the Cowboys' season-opening loss to Tulsa. Morris did, however, express confidence in quarterback Drew Mestemaker, stating that the 29-year-old is the type of player who takes accountability and won't point fingers when things go wrong.

Mestemaker's performance in the game against Tulsa was particularly disappointing, as he was expected to be the star of the show. He completed 29 of 49 passes for 241 yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions, which was his worst game grade of the season. Morris noted that Mestemaker was a little antsy early in the game and missed a couple of throws, but he has faith in the young quarterback's ability to bounce back.

Mestemaker's confidence is also supported by center Tyler Mercer, who described Mestemaker as a "baller" and someone who has been in similar situations before. The team's overall faith in Mestemaker remains strong, and the belief is that he will respond in the right way during upcoming games, particularly when OSU hosts West Virginia in their first Big 12 matchup of the season.
