Forget iPhone Fold: Apple may have a surprising name for its first foldable

Apple may unveil its first foldable smartphone under the name iPhone Duo at its September 9 event, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. The device is expected to feature a book-style design with a smaller external display and a larger internal display that unfolds like a tablet. The name "Duo" seemingly refers to the device's dual screens, distinguishing it from Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold line.

Apple's previous attempts at naming the device included "iPhone Ultra," but the name "Duo" could better convey its unique features. The expected price for the entry-level iPhone Duo with 256GB of storage starts at $2,000, making it one of Apple's most expensive iPhones. In the UAE, the device could cost around Dh8,500 for the base model, potentially making it the company's most expensive iPhone ever sold in the country.

Apple has reportedly spent years perfecting the hinge and display durability for the foldable, addressing the common issue of creases on folding displays. The device is expected to ship in October, potentially different from the release schedule of Apple's other new iPhones.
