Fire damages mayor’s office

On Tuesday, a fire erupted at the Karachi office of Mayor Murtaza Wahab, causing significant damage to the room and furniture, though fortunately, no one was harmed. During a press conference, Wahab informed reporters that firefighters had managed to bring the blaze under control. The Karachi Fire Brigade is scheduled to perform a comprehensive inspection of the premises to determine the cause of the fire.

Wahab expressed confidence that his staff and other personnel were unharmed, and the financial impact of the fire would be assessed and compensated.

Wahab suggested that the fire may have originated due to a malfunction in the air-conditioning system located in his office, with the outdoor unit installed close to the kitchen area. However, he emphasized that the definitive cause could only be established following a formal investigation. He confirmed that his office had sustained extensive damage and that furniture had been destroyed, but assured that no critical official records were kept there.

Instead, documents requiring his signature were promptly signed, orders were issued, and then returned to the pertinent departments.

The Mayor also revealed that his office would undergo an internal investigation, with CCTV footage and other relevant evidence scrutinized. Chief Fire Officer has been designated to inspect the site and ascertain the origin of the blaze. Despite the damages, Wahab reaffirmed his commitment to fulfilling his official duties from an alternative room, and stated that planned visits and activities across the city would continue as scheduled.

A press conference, originally planned for Tuesday to discuss development projects, was postponed due to the incident and is expected to be held within the following one or two days.
