Dubai-Sharjah traffic: E11 slows the evening drive home

Dubai commuters are facing a longer journey home tonight as E11, the road connecting Dubai and Sharjah, experiences significant traffic congestion. Google Maps snapshots reveal long queues of vehicles on E11, particularly as they approach the emirate border and enter Sharjah. The slowdown is a regular occurrence during evening rush hour, with thousands of motorists leaving Dubai simultaneously.

Traffic monitoring has identified E11 as one of the busiest roads during this period, with queues forming all the way through Dubai and towards Sahara Centre and Sharjah. The inland route between Dubai and Sharjah is also experiencing slower traffic, with Muhaisnah, the industrial areas, and Muwaileh being the most affected. However, there is a glimmer of hope for those willing to take an alternate route.

E611/Emirates Road appears to be much less congested, with green traffic indications on Google Maps. While some slower patches exist, they are not as severe as the congestion on E11. For those heading towards outer Sharjah or continuing north, embracing E611 could save considerable time. Recent evening rush hour testing suggests that Emirates Road may prove faster than E311 when the latter is severely congested.

Beyond Sharjah, traffic conditions improve, with mostly free-flowing traffic leading towards Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, and Ras Al Khaimah. Within Dubai, E44 and other northbound roads also show pockets of congestion, but the overall network remains functional. Commuters heading to Sharjah tonight should consider E11 and its busy stretches, along with E311, as their most challenging options.

Checking alternative routes, such as E611, before departing could lead to a significantly shorter journey home.
