Dubai sends 74 tonnes of aid supplies to boost Nepal flood relief effort

Dubai's humanitarian relief hub has sent a substantial 74 tonnes of essential aid to Nepal to assist communities affected by recent deadly floods. The supplies, which include tents, medicines, and winter kits, were transported on Tuesday by a Boeing 777-F operated by Emirates SkyCargo and are headed for Kathmandu. The shipment was directed by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, the Vice President and Ruler of Dubai.

The aid was provided from prepositioned stocks of UNICEF, the World Food Programme, and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. Mohammed Al Shaibani, Chairman of Dubai Humanitarian, emphasized that the shipment reinforces Dubai's role as a vital link in the global humanitarian supply chain. Dubai Humanitarian is also grateful for the partnership with Emirates SkyCargo, which facilitated this emergency flight.

Badr Abbas, divisional senior vice president for Emirates SkyCargo, expressed the company's commitment to supporting disaster-affected areas worldwide. The company has already delivered 184 tonnes of aid to Nepal under a $10 million relief response package. A glacier collapse and landslide on August 26 caused flash flooding, resulting in over 13,000 deaths and thousands of missing persons. An Emirati search and rescue team has already begun their mission in Nepal.
