Dubai sends 74 tonnes of aid supplies to boost Nepal flood relief effort

Dubai dispatched 74 tonnes of essential aid to Nepal in response to devastating floods that struck the country last month. The supplies, comprising tents, shelter materials, medicines, hygiene kits, and winter kits, were airlifted aboard a Boeing 777-F operated by Emirates SkyCargo, destined for Kathmandu. The UAE's support was directed by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, the Vice President and Ruler of Dubai.

The shipment augmented the collective relief efforts from international organizations such as Unicef, the World Food Programme, and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. Mohammed Al Shaibani, Chairman of Dubai Humanitarian, emphasized that the delivery reinforced Dubai's role as a vital link in the global supply chain and highlighted the company's longstanding partnership with Emirates SkyCargo.

Badr Abbas, divisional senior vice president for Emirates SkyCargo, affirmed the company's dedication to supporting disaster-stricken communities worldwide. The airline has already transported 184 tonnes of aid to Nepal under a $10 million relief response package. A glacier collapse and landslide triggered flash flooding on August 26, resulting in over 13,000 fatalities and thousands of missing individuals.

An Emirati search and rescue team landed in Nepal on Friday and began critical on-the-ground operations in a race against time to save lives.
