Driveway of coastal mansion owned by Nicolas Cage collapses

Malibu, Calif. (AP) — The driveway of a coastal mansion owned by actor Nicolas Cage collapsed early Tuesday, creating a large opening in front of the residence. Gasoline leaked shortly after 6 a.m., prompting emergency responders and a utility company to take action. SoCalGas reported that the leaking gas was under control several hours later, but they temporarily shut off natural gas services for a 85-foot stretch of the street as a precaution against coastal erosion.

Cage's representatives did not respond to inquiries regarding the incident. Property records indicate the property was sold in 2024 and Cage was listed as the purchaser at the time. The mansion suffered damage from coastal flooding caused by Hurricane Marie, which brought heavy rain and powerful waves along the Southern California coast over the holiday weekend.

The city of Malibu ordered the closure of five homes on the street, situated between the ocean and the well-known Pacific Coast Highway. Nicolas Cage, 62, recently appeared in the Amazon series "Spider-Noir" and will portray NFL coach and commentator John Madden in an upcoming biographical film. Cage has starred in over 100 films, earning an Oscar for "Leaving Las Vegas."
