Bauchi Senator Buba demands evidence of alleged links to bandits

Bauchi Senator Shehu Buba has demanded tangible evidence from those accusing him of having ties with bandits. The senator, who is contesting the gubernatorial seat in 2027, also stated that the allegations are politically motivated and intended to tarnish his reputation ahead of the elections. Buba urged anyone with evidence against him to present it to the relevant security agencies or the courts rather than disseminating false claims via the media.

The senator, who has been under such allegations since 2024, has consistently denied any wrongdoing. Recently, videos shared by a content creator named D English Alhaji purportedly showed suspected bandit leaders having meetings at Buba's residence. Additionally, a resident named Hassan alleged that the senator had been linked to politicians supporting bandits.

Hassan further claimed that individuals associated with the notorious bandit leader Dogo Gide had received specialized training in Abuja, allegedly with the assistance of one of Buba's aides.

Responding to the allegations, Buba affirmed that he would not allow them to intimidate or silence him. His Special Adviser on Media and Communication, Sabo Mohammed, confirmed the senator's stance in a statement released on Tuesday. Buba described the reports as a sponsored campaign aimed at advancing political goals prior to the 2027 elections.

Buba, as a doctoral student in Peace and Conflict Resolution, emphasized his commitment to addressing security challenges through legal and institutional methods, rather than resorting to media brawls. He urged Nigerians to support governments in their efforts to combat terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other crimes, while cautioning against politicizing, ethnicizing, or religiousizing the fight against insecurity.
